Beeswax Candle

A unique candle cast in a wooden mold. Diameter approx. 7.5 cm.
Material: 100% beeswax, cotton wick.

Once upon a time there was a sound engineer at the Finnish Broadcasting Company who grew tired of monitoring and decided to go work at a candle factory. After a year of study, he founded his own workshop, designed the molds, and cast all kinds of candles for his own pleasure and for others to enjoy. Several of the sound engineer’s daughters chose artistic careers, and at least one granddaughter is already performing around the world. Our paths have crossed at several points, and as fate would have it, when I began making candles in my own home workshop, the daughters donated the wooden molds for my use.

Previously, candles cast in wooden molds were made from paraffin shavings and stearin. Now, after two years of testing and making, I pour the candles from pure beeswax, with no additives other than a drop of vegetable oil used to grease the molds before pouring. Each candle is unique, just like the person who lights it.

The candle burns long and beautifully—up to 20 hours. What remains is a small lantern-like shell, which you can either compost with bio-waste, refill and cast again, or return to the place of purchase to receive a small discount on your next candle.

Tip: An intact shell floats, so you can also set it gently on water.
