This is me at home in Finland, in a log house between Helsinki and Turku, at the piano, like I’ve been since I was ten. This 1934 Blüthner has survived more than it should have.
Seven raw minutes. I’ve had the equipment for years. It was just spread across the house. This week it all found its way into one room, and this video is the first thing that came out of it.

Hey, guys. I’ve been waiting so long to make this happen.

I made the first video in Munich sometime around 2018 or 2019 — a YouTube livestream with nobody in the audience. I posted it afterwards and said, “Sorry you missed it, but it was good.” But I didn’t really feel it. Sorry, I’m completely reverberized in here.

So I never got into it for real, even though I had all the equipment. Over the past year it’s been coming and going, and I’ve been struggling with social media, because I was sort of performing. Which I’m doing now too, of course — the camera is there and you are there. But this time it isn’t a livestream. I just see you behind the camera, and I’m so happy you’re there.

It’s been coming for a while. I’ve set things up so I can work with the Blüthner, so I’m in the place I’ve been since I was ten years old — and even earlier — behind the piano, enjoying the acoustics, loving the weather, with my best friend the dog. He actually has his own camera. We can switch it on. There it is: the Drama camera.

So I’m starting with small steps. Well, I actually started with big steps, but then I realized I had the frame rates wrong, and that was the end of my first 45-minute recording. So this time I’m just here with what I have.
Anyway, I’m so glad you’re there, and I can’t wait to see where this develops. Please, please, please leave a comment of some sort — a text message, or a comment in the field. I’m not sure yet where I’m going to post this. I’ll probably do a YouTube thing; it’s just getting so expensive. But I have a Vimeo too, so we’ll see where this ends up. I’m excited.

I had all the equipment ready — it was just spread all over the house, and I had to gather it together. “What is this? And what is this cable?” And then everything found its place. The only thing I had to buy was a cable from the mixer to — maybe I can show you with the little camera here. See, I’m still learning this. I needed a cable from the mixer to my iPad, so that if we want to listen to music or other recordings, we can.
And yes, it’s beautiful weather in the living room. I probably won’t show you around much, but here you can see where we are. More soon. Glad you’re here.
If I switch the scene — this is new, I’ve learned to work the scenes, and it’s kind of cool. I can do different things with that too. I mean, what am I explaining? Most of you have probably already tried it, but I hadn’t.

I’ve been singing the same songs for so long. I can’t wait to get to new songs too. I mean, what do you do when you’re just noodling around? I do this.
